Bank Center-invest has attracted $145 million into the economy of the South Russia

21.02.2008

On February 21th, 2008 Center-invest Bank has successfully extended its syndicated loan originally arranged by Standard Bank PLC (London) and Commerzbank AG (Frankfurt) in February 2007.

As a result of high demand from participating banks the amount of the loan grew to $145 million which is almost double of the amount of the original financing. Term of the loan and other conditions remained unchanged.

Thirty seven banks from Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States participated in the syndication. (Please refer to attachment #1)

According to Kristina Tchoufarova, Senior Vice President, Debt Capital Markets, Standard Bank Plc, the Bank Center-invest “Extension was one of the first CIS bank loans (and one of the few ones) to be launched into the difficult market of January 2008. Bank Center-invest has always been a popular name with investors. Since its first international syndicated loan in 2006 Bank Center-invest has developed strong relationship with partner banks across the globe. This is normally a good foundation for any extension. However, a 81% oversubscription from the initial amount of US$80m has certainly exceeded all our expectations and has truly demonstrated an outstanding work by the Borrower and arrangers (Commerzbank AG and Standard Bank Plc). Through their joint efforts the extension has not only kept the majority of the existing lenders in but also attracted a large number of new lenders. We are very pleased with the result of this Extension. This will undoubtedly enhance the profile of Bank Center-invest in the international capital markets."

The facility will be used to increase lending to the small businesses of the South of Russia and to develop trade finance operations in the region. The syndicated loan will help to realize the main goals of Center-invest Bank’s strategy “South of Russia+”:

  • Raising the living standards and developing entrepreneurship in the South Russia
  • Investing in energy efficiency technologies
  • Introducing modern technologies in the agriculture and construction sectors as well as in the industrial and transport infrastructure of the South Russia
