More than 60 teams from different Russian universities took part in the national contest of research efforts on implementing artificial intelligence to analyse and forecast indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The prize fund of the event amounted to RUB 3 million. The contest was organised by Center-invest Bank and Rostov State University of Economics (RSU).
All the submitted efforts can be divided into three categories:
1. Where teams conducted research and implemented MVP.
2. Where teams conducted research using cloud-based platforms.
3. Where teams conducted pure research using Excel.
The projects with quality presentations, in clear language, well arranged and professionally presented received high ratings. Exploratory Data Analysis within these projects included identifying data clusters, determining parameter relationships, and building and evaluating ARIMA and SARIMAX models. Some efforts also involved building and analysing LSTM models.
Some teams stood out for their detailed and in-depth analytical work presented as dashboards in Yandex DataLens. Dashboards included plots, correlation matrices, clusters, and detailed descriptions of the identified relationships within the data sets. Additionally, suggestions for improving SDG dynamics based on the responses of AI models (chatGPT) were presented that take into account clusters, dependencies and values of SDG data.
Particular attention was paid to the use of diffusion models to visualise the distribution of SDG-related data. The technical solutions presented by the participants looked competitive and voluminous in their content.
Several projects were recognised for building ML models and detailed work to analyse their performance and confidence. Although overly detailed, the presentations featured simple language and pleasant visuals. These efforts have demonstrated the potential for further development and improvement.
Center-invest Bank would like to thank all the participants for their hard work and contribution to the development of research work related to the Sustainable Development Goals achievement. An online ceremony to announce the winners of the contest is to be held on "Statistics Worker’s Day" on June 25, 2024.
